The cooperation between history and sociology is both necessary and ambiguous. It is necessary because both history and sociology deal with human beings in society, but they are essentially different: while history is centered on causal imputation, sociology aims at general comparative analyses. Therefore, the cooperation between history and sociology cannot end up in a pure and simple mechanistic synthesis. In order to cooperate positively with sociology, history has to broad its perspective to include «history of the everyday». Sociology, on the other hand, should get acquainted with the basic historical findings.
